HORSE INFORMATION:
Breeding
This gelding is from the famous Danehill line and his sire, Ivan Denisovich, was a leading globetrotting horse for Ballydoyle who started favourite for both the Prix Morny (Group 1) and Middle Park (Group 1) as a 2-y-o and was placed in the St James Palace Stakes (Group 1), the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington (Group 1) and the Hollywood Derby (Group 1) as a 3-y-o before being retired to stud. The dam, Montana Miss, was rated 83 and won two races before being retired to the paddocks at the end of her 3-y-o career. Ifan is a half sister to Rory Anna, the winner of 5 races, two on the flat and three over hurdles with a rating over jumps of 135.
Trainer
Tim Vaughan (Cardiff), who has had a sensational start to his training career with 55 winners in 08/09, 88 winners in 09/10, 91 in 10/11, 102 in 11/12 and 78 in 12/13to date.  A great yard to be involved in and destined for the very top.
Form
Previously trained by Bryn Palling on the flat and was placed three times in his last four runs for that yard before being a good second on his recent flat debut for his new yard.  He then duly followed up with a good win at Wolverhampton in March. He was then a very close second at Salisbury in May when just failing to catch Intomist, going down by a rapidly diminishing short head on the line.  Three further seconds followed from his next three runs each time coming across a well handicapped horse.  His jumps debut at Newton Abbot should be ignored as he was badly hampered twice in the first three hurdles and had no chance thereafter. He returned to the flat with another good second at Ayr.Ifan made it 5 consecutive seconds on the flat on his seasonal debut in 2014 when bumping into yet another well handicapped horse with the the 6lb well in Club House at Lingfield.  A convincing winner at Wolverhampton next time finally put that sequence to rest with a thoroughly well deserved success and he duly followed up at Brighton with a game front running performance before denied his hat-trick when just being touched off in a very close finish at Yarmouth with the third horse 8 lengths back. This did however extend his amazing run of being in the first two to all his last 11 races on the flat and in the first three to all his last 14 races.
Prospects
Hopes are high that there is still more improvement to come with further maturity for this late developing type and that he will make into a really nice jumping prospect. He should hopefully continue to give his owners plenty of fun with the plan to go novice hurdling in April 2015 for the new jumps season.
